Following a retro in 2016, the Nike Air Griffey Max 1’s OG “Freshwater” colorway will return next year to celebrate the model’s 25th anniversary.
The Air Griffey Max 1, introduced in 1996 by Ken Griffey Jr., The Kid, was an everyday version of the cross trainer style of the cleats he wore on the diamond. The shoe has a wavy black nubuck top with a white leather base, and has an exterior construction and a secure Nike brand strap that folds over the ankle. Coupling the pair to the Griffey’s Seattle Mariners wires is the shoe’s distinctive “Freshwater” aqua hits highlighted in red.
Recently, the OG “Emerald” color of the Air Griffey Max 1 inspired a new Nike SB Dunk Mid.
As of now, no exact date has emerged for this pair, but the arrival of official Nike product images suggests that it may drop sooner rather than later. Expect the ‘Freshwater’ Nike Air Griffey Max 1 to be released in early 2021.
UPDATE (01/09): Official images of the “FreshWater” Nike Air Griffey Max 1 retro have surfaced and according to the DTLR release calendar, the pair will return on February 15 for $ 170.
