Police said Robert Maraj, 64, was walking along a road on Friday night when he was hit by the car, which then fled the scene.
He was then taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (February 13).
Police in Nassau County, New York, have called for witnesses to come forward. The case is being investigated by the manslaughter group.
The news was confirmed to various media by Minaj’s representative.
The rapper, real name Onika Tanya Maraj, was born in Trinidad and raised in the New York borough of Queens.
Minaj has yet to make another public statement after the news of his death.
Maraj’s death comes a few months after Minaj gave birth to her first child, along with her husband Kenneth Petty.
