Nick McGlashan, member of the cast ‘Deadliest Catch’, dies at 33

McGlashan was 33.

No cause of death or further information has been given and his death is currently being investigated.

Discovery, the network house of its series, released a statement to CNN.

“Our deepest sympathy goes out to Nick’s loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement said. “Nick comes from a long line of crabbers and was known for his great depth of knowledge. He also had a keen sense of humor, even in the most difficult of circumstances. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

The program describes the lives of crews working on fishing boats in the Bering Sea.

McGlashan was born in Alaska as a veteran commercial fisherman and began working on a boat at age 13.

According to his biography on the Discovery Go website, he was ” a 7th generation fisherman who was raised not far from the Dutch port on the nearby island of Akutan, Alaska. ‘

“He is named after his great-uncle Nick McGlashan, who worked on the first boat that rumored the American crab industry, the F / V Deep Sea, built in 1947, did pioneering work,” reads the bio. “Two of Nick’s aunts were also scratchers; one was lost at sea when the boat sank in 1986.”

McGlashan is working as a cover boss on ‘Deadliest Catch’ and has been appearing in the series since 2013.

Cameras captured his battle with drug abuse and in May he began about it in an article in Chosen Magazine titled “The Deadliest Disease.”

McGlashan wrote that he abused alcohol, heroin and methamphetamine, overdosed three times before being treated in September 2016 and became sober.

“My life went very quickly from the Bering Sea badass to the full-fledged junkie. The passion I had for life was hidden from me,” he wrote. “Taken from me is my ability to live. I was at war with my addiction and it was winning.”

McGlashan was kicked off the boat for a while during season 13 to deal with his addiction.

“Although he was his up and down, Nick has struggled endlessly to stay sober and embark on a new sober lifestyle and is now so committed to his recovery that he inspires others in their own,” according to his Discovery Go -bio.

McGlashan is one of several members who died, including Mahlon Reyes, who allegedly died in August at the age of 38 after suffering a heart attack.
