NFL Trade Rumors: Bills Not Presented to Eagles’ Zach Ertz

The Buffalo Bills have been pretty quiet this week as the free agent frenzy has taken place around the NFL, but Brandon Beane, general manager, continues to search for the right deal.

NFL Insider Report Benjamin Allbright that the Bills and the Los Angeles Chargers made trade offers for the disgruntled Philadelphia Eagles tighthead Zach Ertz. It looks like the Eagles want more than the Bills or the Chargers offer.

“The Eagles have tried to get Buffalo and the Chargers successful from their offers, so far neither side has emerged,” Allbright said.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Dan Graziano said the Bills were trying to put a strict end to the free agency. A day later, Michael Silver of NFL Network reported that the Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers had made an offer from Rob Gronkowksi, the free agent. The Western New York product apparently considered Buffalo’s offer before deciding to sign with Tampa Bay again to play with Tom Brady again.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke to the media on Thursday and was asked about any progress with the Ertz deal. He reaffirmed his position that the team is willing to draft Ertz in 2021 if they can not find a deal they like.

“For us to trade any player, it must make sense for both sides,” he said. “None of us had the year we wanted last year, but that does not define us. We know who he is on and off the field, and we appreciate that. ”

The bills have seven drafts in April’s draft (two fifth rounds and zero choice in the 4th round) that they can use in any transaction. Depending on what the Eagles want, Beane may keep a round in mind that he is not willing to pull out to add a 30-year-old tighthead.

Ertz is in the final year of his contract and earns $ 8.25 million and has a cap of $ 12.47 million, according to contract numbers on Spotrac.com. Ertz wants to believe that a new agreement will be made, and the bills will have to work it out if they want to trade for him. If the bills want to extend it, they can theoretically add it and make it perennial this year as a new agreement.

The Eagles may struggle to get the kind of value they are looking for in a deal for Ertz, due to the low production of their offense last season. Ertz had a low career of 36 receptions for 335 yards and just one touch.

Buffalo swapped veteran tighthead Lee Smith to the Atlanta Falcons for a seventh round in 2022 on Wednesday, leaving Dawson Knox, Tommy Sweeney, Reggie Gilliam and Nate Becker as the only tighthead props currently in the Bills series.

The Chargers have since reportedly signed free agent Jared Cook to a one-year deal.
