NFL Rumors: Bears and Colts, Not Just Teams Calling About Carson Wentz

In the last few days, the Colts and Bears have clearly become the best two potential landing spots for Carson Wentz, but it seems like some other teams are at least watching.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was on the John Kincade Show on 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday morning and was asked about interest from other teams.

“I can tell you that,” Schefter said. ‘The Bears and Colts are not the only teams that Carson Wentz has called. Is there now a team that is willing to act? I do not know what the answer to that is. I do not know. Is there a team waiting? I do not know. I know they got enough interest from enough teams.

‘I would say there is, that I can count, that I know, at least two or three other teams that have called. That does not mean they are in or not, but they called to see what it would take. And you are waiting to see if one of them will finally perform or not. ”

OK, so how real is that? It’s hard to know. Because teams definitely make calls, but that does not really let us know what their interest in Wentz is. However, it seems possible that there is a team that is monitoring the situation and is ready to jump in if the price drops a bit.

The Colts and Bears are clearly at the top of the list for now, but Mike Kaye of NJ.com reports that the trading market for Wentz has cooled some as the Eagles have lived up to their asking price. The report also says the Bears are getting impatient with the Eagles.

This leads us to this post of the Chicago Tribune‘s Brad Biggs, who was asked if the Bears are ‘all in’ on Wentz. He says it’s not because they keep their options open.

Biggs also wrote: “It’s my feeling that the Philadelphia Eagles worked overtime to arouse more interest in Wentz than there actually is.”

Yes, it seems likely. Howie Roseman is pretty good in the drum of a market and this is a perfect opportunity to do it again. On Friday and Saturday, there was apparently a great deal of momentum for the trade, but since then things have apparently slowed down considerably.

Schefter stood by the ESPN report of the weekend on Wednesday morning and said that the Eagles’ deal with Wentz could be as early as this week.

‘I still think it could be this week. That does not mean it will be this week, ”he said. ‘But I still think it’s absolutely leaning towards him trading. I still believe he is trading. We’ll see if it’s today, tomorrow, Friday or next week. But they’re going to handle him. ‘
