Last year, the NFL and NFL Players Association agreed that the 2021 salary cap would be no less than $ 175 million, as part of the negotiations that could turn pro-football into a pandemic. They have now agreed that it will be a little higher than that.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the league has notified all teams that the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to push the minimum salary limit per team to $ 180 million.

“This is not the final salary cap for the 2021 league year, which will be determined after the review of final income figures for 2020 and other audit and accounting adjustments,” the memorandum explains. “This agreement increases the 2021 minimum wage limit by $ 5 million per club, from $ 175 million to $ 180 million.”

The memorandum gives no indication of when the salary ceiling will be determined. The uncertainty makes it difficult for teams to draw up budgets, negotiate contracts and target potential free agents.

Some in the league expect the final number to be $ 180 million. Raising the minimum to $ 180 million could now increase it.
