NFL Draft 2021: Raiders Attract Jamin Davis in Mel Kiper’s New Spot

We are just over a month away from the 2021 NFL draft starting April 29 – May 1 in Cleveland, Ohio.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Mel Kiper released his updated NFL spot design, and the Las Vegas Raiders take on Kentucky midfielder Jamin Davis with the 17th overall pick.

Here’s what Kiper had to say about the choice.

Get to know this name, because Davis is having a great time. When I recently sat down to watch his 2020 band, I loved what I saw. He has a tremendous scope. He is bodily. He can play inside or outside. He can cover and has some ball skills, including picking three passes last season. Davis is the total package, and he can turn in the midfield link for Jon Gruden’s Raiders team. The other position to monitor here is on the offensive line, with former beginners Trent Brown, Gabe Jackson and Rodney Hudson everything has been traded for the past ten days.

As Kiper said, Davis has made a dramatic climb on concept boards thanks to his breakout 2020 season in the SEC. After being a backup in his first two seasons, Davis stepped in as a full-time starter last year and earned the first-team All-SEC honors through Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus.

Here’s what Treash had to say at the time of Davis.

The defense on this cat is nothing out of the ordinary. Davis led all SEC off-line backs in the defensive rank at 89.0. His approach was also the best in the entire group, with just eight times on 104 attempts this season.

Davis finished the 2020 season in third place in the SEC overall (102), despite missing one game due to an unknown problem. He also recorded four dives for loss, 1.5 pockets, three interceptions, one pick-six, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick.

When Kentucky’s offseason begins, Davis is widely expected to return for his senior season. However, he went through the draft evaluation process and received good feedback from the draft advisory board, which led him to take what at the time was considered a shocking decision to declare.

Davis has clearly made the right call as he is now going through a lot of shocking concepts towards the end of the first round or early in the second round, but Kiper’s projection of Davis’ overall 17th position is easily the best projection he has ever had. got.
