NFL Draft 2021: Growing ‘Buzz’ Jets Hold Sam Darnold, Trade No.

The New York Jets are on the clock for the 2021 NFL draft.

It’s a foregone conclusion that the Jacksonville Jaguars will use the No. 1 pick on Clemson fullback Trevor Lawrence.

So, Joe Douglas, general manager of the Jets, has to decide if he will swap Sam Darnold and use the number 2 pick on a new franchise QB (BYU’s Zach Wilson or Justin Fields in Ohio), retain the number 2 and get help for Darnold (Oregon tackles Penei Sewell or a wide receiver from DeVonta Smith in Alabama), or hold Darnold and trade the No. 2 to move down the board and save the picks.

The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin reports that there is an increasing buzz that the Jets will play with Sam Darnold and his salary of $ 920,000 this year, and building the pieces to set him up instead of a QB. Considering how many teams are the best forwards for the quarter, Douglas may be able to reach number 2 for his collection of drafts. For a Jets team rebuilding from scratch, the scenario has to be very enticing. ”

Keep in mind that the Jets already own six of the first 98 picks in the NFL draft in 2021, thanks to the Jamal Adams trade. And they have nearly $ 70 million to spend in free agencies, giving Douglas a one-time opportunity to rebuild the organization from top to bottom and from within.
