NFL Draft 2021: Dave Gettleman uses number 11 to get help for Daniel Jones in Todd McShay, ESPN’s latest mock projections

For the fourth year in a row, Dave Gettleman, general manager of the New York Giants, owns a top-15 pick in the NFL draft.

And for the fourth consecutive year, Gettleman will use it to add an offensive piece to the puzzle. This is according to Todd McShay of ESPN, who released his last cartoon for the first round on Wednesday.

McShay has the Giants picking up Kyle Pitts, Florida’s tight end prop, at number 11. Here’s why.

With the top three wide receivers and the top two diagonals off the board, the need for the Giants here would be a considerable range. Offensive line can be in play, just like the edge. But if Pitts is still at number 11 there, it will be very difficult for New York to add the 6-6 fast and versatile nightmare. Giant washbasin Evan Engram has missed 14 games over four years and is a free agent after next season. Meanwhile, the Giants can enjoy a fantastic duo at the end – Pitts are versatile enough to play with Engram and move through the formation – and offer quarterback Daniel Jones with a playmaker.

In his spot, McShay led LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase to the Philadelphia Eagles at no. 6, the Alabama-wide receiver, DeVonta Smith, to the Detroit Lions at no. 7 and Crimson Tide teammate Jaylen Waddle goes to the Miami Dolphins at No. 8.

Pitts will join the Giants attack along with Saquon Barkley (No. 2 in 2018), fullback Daniel Jones (No. 6 in 2019) and attacking tackle Andrew Thomas (No. 4 in 2020).
