NFC West Notes: Seahawks, Golden, 49ers

For the second time in three years, KJ Wright is a free agent. The longest Seahawks player has already signed three contracts with the franchise that drafted him. He is eager to give a fourth ink.

I enjoy it; I love this city. I love this team, so let’s make it happen“Wright said about a return to Seattle, via ESPN.com’s Brady Henderson. ‘… (a return is) up to Pete (Carroll) en John (Tailor). They know how much I mean to this team. They know I’m an excellent teammate, an excellent leader, and it would be a good investment – in my opinion – if they invested in KJ and brought him back into the building. You get what you pay for, and I still bring a lot to the table. ”

Wright (31) does not sound like a discount in his hometown, according to veteran NFL reporter Josina Anderson (on Twitter). The Seahawks have Wright and Bobby Wagner used for nine seasons and both used as sub-package linebackers for most of the 2020 lead. But Seattle essay Jordyn Brooks in the first round of last year could complicate a Wright return. Pro Football Focus rated Wright last season as its overall No. 8 supporter.

Here’s the latest from the NFC West:

  • The Seahawks did not intend to separate from OC Brian Schottenheimer, but CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora takes note of an end-of-season event – in which Carroll strengthened his preference to focus on the run – leading the team to change game callers. The Seahawks deviated from Carroll’s run-centric vision in the first half of the season, but returned more to their usual setup on the piece. It will be interesting to see what Seattle’s offense under new OC looks like Shane Waldron, who worked in Washington and Los Angeles for five years Sean McVay.
  • Markus Golden’s pocket total dropped from 10 in 2019 to 4.5 in 2020, and the Cardinal have seen Haason Reddick completed a contract year breakthrough. The older rand grid in Arizona still wants to return. ‘It gave me another shock of energy when I was just home“Golden said about the trade that sent him from the Giants to the Cards via Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com. ‘Because I’m here where I know my heart is, it’s important to me to be at the Cardinals in Arizona. Golden, who signed with the Giants in 2019 and stayed in New York last year via the rare UFA tender, is available for free for a third consecutive year.
  • Big expenses on top of the Framea payroll has forced the team to let several role players run in recent seasons. This year is perhaps no exception. The Rams are unlikely to sign again Josh Reynolds, Malcolm Brown or Gerald Everett, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic notes (entry required). The Rams drafted a contributor to these positions in 2020, and has two wide positions (Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods) and a stiff tip (Tyler Higbee) has already signed long-term, this trio pointed to free agency.
  • Jeff Wilsonsay one year 49ers According to Matt Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay Area, the expansion could be a maximum of $ 3.6 million. Wilson will be fully guaranteed $ 2.05MM, with another possible $ 1.55MM available via incentives. The incentives will give Wilson the chance to earn the low-cost RFA tender award, which OverTheCap is planning for $ 2.24 million for backlog projects. He is still a UFA in 2022.
  • Nick Mullens underwent elbow surgery last month, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets. However, it was not a Tommy John operation, and Garafolo added that the 49ers backup’s injury was not as severe as initially feared. He is expected to be ready by training camp.
