Miami’s Hometown Airline deepens commitment to community with new and enhanced service

  • American launches new destination for uninterrupted route map from Miami (MIA) to Paramaribo, Suriname and adds a new flight from MIA to Tel Aviv (TLV), starting in June.
  • MIA will launch new summer service to Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT), and Portland, Maine (PWM).
  • Airline is increasing capacity to Latin America and the Caribbean, with additional frequencies from MIA to the Caribbean from April; and new service from Charlotte (CLT), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX) from June.

MIAMI – American Airlines is stepping up its commitment to its Miami hub with the announcement of two new international routes to Tel Aviv (TLV) and Paramaribo, Suriname (PBM), starting this summer. The airline is also introducing two new domestic routes from the MIA Center to Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT) and Portland, Maine (PWM), operating from June 5 to August 16. All flights are available on February 15th.

New international routes from the south

American will complement recently announced service from New York (JFK) to TLV with flights from MIA to TLV to be launched in June. Three times a week from MIA to TLV starts June 4 and will operate on a Boeing 777-200. Customers have the option to choose Flagship Business, with seating, Premium Economy or Main Cabin on the 12-hour flight. The airline plans to offer Kosher meals for pre-order and kosher wine on board.

From July, American will also be the first and only American carrier to offer non-stop service to PBM. Flights run five times a week on an Airbus 319, with an easy schedule for customers traveling through the United States to connect via MIA. As a new destination for the airline, Suriname becomes the ninth country served in South America.

This year, customers can also look forward to more frequencies to the Caribbean from MIA. Port-au-Prince (PAP), for example, will increase in five daily flights from April; and Santiago (STI) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) in the Dominican Republic, will increase to operate four and seven daily flights, respectively. In addition to MIA’s PAP service, from April 2, the airline will offer an additional flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL) to PAP.

MIA will also expand the service to Latin America, with 12 destinations that will see more frequencies this summer compared to 2019. Last year, the airline introduced the Boeing 787-8 aircraft to the Miami hub, listing a number of destinations provides extra capacity. The service includes Bogota (BOG), Medellin (MDE) and Cali (CLO) in Colombia; Guayaquil (GYE) and Quito (UIO) in Ecuador; Lima, Peru (LIM); PAP; and Santiago, Chile (SCL).

From 5 June, the airline will start Saturday service from MIA to LIT and PWM. This is the first time that Americans are running this service during the summer months and offering more customers in Little Rock and Portland to visit sunny South Florida or connect seamlessly to one of the many destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Growth in Latin America and the Caribbean

American continued to expand its capacity to Latin America and the Caribbean by maintaining aircraft and providing more service. This summer, American plans for 16% more capacity to the region from MIA compared to 2019.

With significant demand for travel to Latin America and the Caribbean, America will double its capacity in Colombia and Peru, while increasing more than 50% in Ecuador and 24% to Central America compared to 2019. This summer adds the airline also serves the region from its hubs Charlotte (CLT), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX). Caribbean additions include a new destination to Samana (AZS), which is operated seasonally from CLT, as well as seasonal service from DFW to St. Louis. Maarten (SXM) and St. Lucia (UVF). New routes to Mexico include the service from DFW to Merida (MID), as well as from LAX to Cancun (CUN).
