New Zealand’s largest city re-locked due to new COVID-19 case

New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, is once again going into a seven-day exclusion after a new coronavirus case arose.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the move on Saturday, with officials still trying to identify the origin of the coronavirus in this case, Reuters report.

Countries have been closely monitoring the variants of the virus from the United Kingdom, Africa and Brazil.

Officials say the patient was contagious on Sunday and visited several public places before realizing two days later that he had symptoms.

For the next week, residents in the city may only get groceries or essential work. The rest of the country is locked up on two levels and will not allow large gatherings.

New Zealand saw several cases of coronavirus earlier this month, and three of the cases were the coronavirus variant from the United Kingdom

There is evidence that the British variant is more contagious and deadly than previous variants.

Officials are trying to see if the new case is linked to previous cases.

New Zealand has reported more than 2,000 cases and more than 20 deaths due to the virus, dramatically smaller numbers compared to other countries, with the country being locked up after new cases arose.
