New York Giants Jason McCourty Divorces Without Agreement …

The New York Giants met with veteran defensive back and hometowner Jason McCourty on Friday night, and the face-to-face apparently went well.

Despite a positive encounter between the Giants and McCourty, however, the two parted ways without an agreement in place. The good news? The door remains open for future negotiations and a potential contract somewhere further (probably after the NFL draft in 2021).

As we noted earlier, the 33-year-old McCoutry was a member of our Homegrown Legends team in September / November. Here is what we wrote about him at the time:

McCourty and his twin brother, Devin, were born and raised in Rockland County, New York, and attended high school just across the state line at Saint Joseph Regional High in Montvale, New Jersey. Jason, who played a corner and was a star running back, was recruited heavier than Devin, who played safety. Jason is considering attending Boston College, but the Eagles did not offer Devin a scholarship. When Rutgers presented both Jason and Devin, the brothers committed themselves to the Scarlet Knights.

Jason recorded 150 games in 47 games with Rutgers and was drafted in the sixth round by the Tennessee Titans. He spent eight seasons with the Titans and one with the Cleveland Browns before joining Devin on the New England Patriots in 2018. Jason has intercepted 18 in 150 careers in the NFL regular season games and wins Super Bowl LIII with the Pats.

McCoutry achieved a Pro Football Focus grade of 55.7 last season, which was the second lowest grade in his career. However, it comes on the heels of three consecutive seasons, which is 74.4 or better.

There is also some familiarity between head coach Joe Judge and McCoutry, so we’ll see if that works in future negotiations or a possible deal. The Giants can definitely use a different angle, so do not expect this interest to just go unnoticed.
