New World, the MMO from Amazon, is postponed until August 31

Here’s a recent trend in the video game: when a game is delayed, the immediate response from a large portion of the audience is ‘Good – better to be delayed than another Cyberpunk’. CD Project Red made such a big mess that they accidentally made life easier for other devils!

So it is with New World, the much-delayed MMO from Amazon Games Studios. It has been delayed again and will now be launched in August.

The development team outlined the video below and explains the delay and some of the features they will be working on in future and release:

Take a serious look at the comments below the video. I scrolled down and knew there would be a Cyberpunk mention, and that’s in the first comment.

The updates of Bezos’ bestos are focusing on the middle and end game content – which is actually the whole game – and are based on feedback from various closed beta tests. In the video, director Scot Lane talks about new dungeons with five players, a 20-on-20 endgame mode called Outpost Rush, plus new zones, fishing and a refurbishment of the crafting system. You can also read about these changes on the New World blog.

Amazon Games Studios has had a lot of bad press recently, with several reports of dysfunction explaining the failure and cancellation of the other games from megacorp, including MOBA Breakaway and hero shooter Crucible. Amazon says they are not going to give up, but New World is their only remaining announced game.

Despite the other flops and the frequent delays in the New World, I do not think this game surrounds the drain. There is an appetite for MMOs of this scale and almost no one else makes such games. I also read positive feedback from people who played it during some beta. I can imagine that New World starts with modest success and at least has enough momentum to keep working.
