New vaccination site opens at Mountain View Community Center

A new vaccination site with the capacity to deliver up to 5,000 vaccinations per week opened in Mountain View on Friday.

The vaccination center at the Mountain View Community Center is for appointment only and will gradually begin services to prevent appointments.

Officials say it will increase rapidly to deliver up to 1,000 shots per day.

“Convenience is paramount,” said Santa Simara County Supervisor Joe Simitian. “The more places we have that serve people where they live and work, the greater the chance that we can slow down the tide of the virus.”

The new vaccination site is a collaboration between the country, which will operate the site, and city staff who will support it.

Vaccines are currently available to healthcare professionals, residents of long-term care facilities and 75 years and older. As more vaccines come to the country, the suitability will increase, provincial officials said.

But city and county officials said this new site is a step in the right direction.

County Smith said the new site will add much-needed capacity to the country and build on its existing capacity in San Jose and Gilroy.

The new vaccination site now accepts appointments and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at 201 S. Rengstorff Ave.

Provincial appointments are available to all eligible residents and employees in the province. However, those with private health insurance are encouraged to be vaccinated by their healthcare provider due to the limited vaccination in the country.
