New trailers: Old, Nomadland, The Vault, and more

The big drop of today was the premiere trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League which, fortunately for weekend editors everywhere, came just after 10:00 ET. It’s coming to HBO Max on March 18th.

Last weekend during the Super Bowl we got a new trailer for the upcoming Disney Plus series The falcon and the winter soldier, which premiered on March 19th. Here it is if you missed it (what, it is possible that someone missed it):

However, there are some non-superhero programs and movies going on, if you need a break from the DC / Marvel / Disney universes (I think that is also possible). Here’s what we have.

Nomadland

Frances McDormand is Fern, a homeless – not homeless, she insists – wife who leaves her home in Nevada after her husband dies, lives in her van and travels west. Apparently, many of the people Fern meets along the way are not actors, but bona fide nomads themselves, who almost make it feel like you’re watching a trailer (the second for this film) for a documentary. David Strathairn also plays in Nomadland, written and directed by Chloe Zhao, and based on the book by Jessica Bruder. It comes to Hulu on February 19th.

Old

This is another trailer that showed up during the Super Bowl: M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, about a family vacationing on a beach and suddenly aging rapidly. The trailer is very, very whimsical, in keeping with the best Shyamalan tradition, and the film is adapted from the graphic science fiction novel Sandcastle, by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters. It boasts the cast: Gael Garcia Bernal, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Aaron Pierre, Alex Wolff, Vicky Krieps, Abbey Lee, Embeth Davidtz, Rufus Sewell and Ken Leung star in Old, which starts in theaters this summer.

The safe

Hey it’s that kid from The Good Doctor (Freddie Highmore) with Ser Davos of Game of Thrones (Liam Cunningham) and Jean Gray (Famke Janssen) of X mans to rob a bank (I mean, it would be quite the movie, but it’s just the actors, not those real characters. Sorry if I let your hopes go up). The crew is going to try to steal a lost treasure that was allegedly hidden in a safe under the Bank of Spain, while everyone is being distracted during the World Cup. I like a good bank robbery. The safe arrives in theaters and on request on 26 March.

F9: The Fast Saga

Vin Diesel and his impossible deep voice are back in another installment of The fast and the furious – the ninth in the franchise, hence the name. Diesel’s Dom Toretto lives a quiet, peaceful life without bothering his family, and since you’ve seen more than one movie in your life, you know it’s not going to last. Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Jordana Brewster all return to play their roles, and they are accompanied by Helen Mirren (!), Charlize Theron and Cardi B, and of course very fast cars. F9 coming to theaters soon.
