As the coronavirus has shaken the lives of almost everyone around the world over the past year, an annual report shows which countries are the happiest in the world.
The world happiness Report In 2021, Finland will be crowned the happiest country of the year for the fourth consecutive year out of 149 countries, followed by Iceland and Denmark.

Switzerland and the Netherlands rounded out the top five, while the United States moved up from 18th place to 14th place.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom fell from 13th to 18th place, while Australia held its 12th position. Afghanistan is at the bottom of the list, with Zimbabwe at number 148 and Rwanda at 147.
This year’s annual report, released by the UN’s Sustainable Development Network’s, was compiled slightly differently due to the coronavirus pandemic. Researchers were unable to complete face-to-face interviews in a number of countries and decided to focus the report on the link between wellness and COVID-19.
Reports in the past were mainly based on levels of GDP, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom and other factors.
“This entire report focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and how people around the world have fared,” said the team behind the report.
“Our goal was twofold, firstly to focus on the impact of COVID-19 on the structure and quality of people’s lives, and secondly to describe and evaluate how governments around the world have dealt with the pandemic.”
Although there were some changes in this year’s list, the rankings were similar despite the unprecedented and challenging year.
“Surprisingly, on average there was no decrease in well-being when measured by people’s own evaluation of their lives,” said John Helliwell, a professor at the University of British Columbia who contributed to the report statement.
“One possible explanation is that people see COVID-19 as a general threat from outside that affects everyone, causing a greater sense of solidarity and compassion,” he said.
