Sources say Warner Bros. have a look at Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet to play the eccentric chocolate.
Warner Bros. has been developing a new Willy Wonka film for almost five years that will explore the character’s earlier days, before becoming the King of Candy, and today the studio announced that it will be released Wonka on March 17, 2023.
Back in 2018, Collider reported this Ryan Gosling, Donald Glover and Ezra Miller was looking at stars, but those names have since fallen all along the way. Recently, sources say that Warners have their eye on one of them Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet to play the eccentric confectioner.
Holland is currently 24 years old, while Chalamet has just turned 25, and not only will they be competing for roles in the coming years, but they are two of Hollywood’s most recognizable and talented leading men under 30. Although it is unclear whether Holland or Chalamet is actively pursuing this part, it is easy to see Chalamet as a younger version of Johnny DeppWe adopt Wonka, while Holland is more of a singing and dancing man in the style of a young man Gene Wilder. To be clear, neither of the two was offered the role of Wonka, but let’s be honest, there are only so many young actors who are Warner Bros. agree to fund this film because I would think it should be a franchise.
Paul King (Paddington) will direct from a text by Simon Rich (An American pickle), which will draw inspiration from Roald Dahl‘s classic children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Wonka will be manufactured by David Heyman, which also the Harry Potter movies for Warners in addition Paddington and persecuted his equally beloved. Variety reports that the studio plans to begin production within the next four months.
Although I am not familiar with the domestic operation of Holland or Chalamet’s schedules, it seems that there are no projects going to start this summer. Chalamet is attached to play Bob Dylan in James Mangoldsay Go electric, but Mangold is currently focused on the fifth Indiana Jones film planned for July 2022. Holland is currently filming a third Spider man film, but he has no other looming projects on his IMDb page.
Information about the plot for Wonka is kept under fold, and since it is an origin story, it remains unclear whether the Oompa Loompas will make an appearance. However, given King’s experience with the computer – generated character of Paddington, it is possible that the Oompa Loompas may also be CG. You can expect the hard-working helpers of the chocolate to appear in at least one of the two animated series that Netflix is working on. Taika Waititi, which itself would make an excellent Wonka, if you ask me. Too bad he’s a little busy now …
