The PS5 and Xbox Series X are almost impossible to find at the moment, and it sounds like it won’t change anytime soon. The first month of 2021 is almost over, and although GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and more all released new shares this month, it was not nearly enough to satisfy demand, and that is partly because each stock very limited with both Sony and Microsoft’s production lines struggling for parts, and because the effect the pandemic had on production lines last year is still persistent. According to AMD CEO Lisa Su, this will not change in 2021.
Su said in a recent earnings call with investors that demand on the consumer side is not only high but also on the production side, while companies are competing for the same parts. Consequently, AMD expects these problems to continue until at least the second half of the year.
Su does not reveal many other consequences, but it does confirm that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be hard to find until at least June, unless demand drops, which seems unlikely at this point. And at the moment, there is no guarantee that supply in the second half of the year will exceed demand, but AMD looks hopeful that things could change by that time.
At the moment, neither Sony nor Microsoft has said much about the stock situation, especially the former. The latter, Microsoft, at least recently confirmed that it expects no change on this front for this financial quarter.
Of course, the retailer contributes to the problem, which collects the inventory before consumers can use via bots that order thousands of consoles within minutes. Right now, the reseller market is very healthy and it’s easy to find a PS5 and Xbox Series X there, but these consoles obviously have a high price.
