TUCSON (KVOA) – Pima County is moving to a new system for its COVID-19 vaccination registration helpline.
The new phone number is 520-222-0119.
The old number (520-594-5684) will no longer be manned, Pima County said.
The new number will be manned this weekend and on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, Jan. 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Normal hours for the extended helpline are from Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 16:30
Kathryn Saunders has been struggling for more than 48 hours to get an appointment. Mark Evans at Pima County says they are trying to figure out the problems.
“The call volume was much larger than we expected. The normal system could not handle the load, so there were a lot of problems connecting,” Evans said.
The province is asking people to register online. Saunders does not have a computer, email or even internet access. Evans said it is a very different challenge.
“For people who do not have a computer or email address, we do not have a solution for them to be vaccinated. You will have the ability to receive an alert,” Evans said.
Evans told News 4 Tucson that they are working to have boarding available as soon as there is enough vaccine.
