New Overwatch 2 designs for Reaper, McCree, Pharah and Widowmaker announced

Overwatch 2 had a smaller presence at BlizzConline than some other Blizzard Entertainment games – in part because the game is still far away – but the Overwatch team did not show up empty-handed. During the show, Blizzard followed behind the scenes on Ear Watch, including new looks for the game’s heroes and villains.

Blizzard highlighted the design overhaul for four characters: McCree, Pharah, Reaper and Widowmaker. In some cases, the changes are not particularly drastic; McCree still has his distinctive cowboy hat and serape, but he, like others Overwatch 2 characters, has a slightly more technical appearance to him. Oh, and his beard is a little longer – apparently everyone’s beards are longer.

And then there’s Widowmaker. As you can see in the gallery below, Blizzard has tried some more dramatic looks for the sharpshooter. According to main character concept artist Arnold Tsang, Blizzard has finally given something more “cyberpunk”.

Widowmaker also now has a braid … and a questionable armor.

Pharah retains her armor, but has a more translucent visor to show more emotion, Tsang said, and a little more white in her color scheme. As for Reaper, he keeps the same silhouette and edge style, but now has a more silver look. But otherwise, the heroes and villains in Overwatch 2 retains many elements of their original designs.

Overwatch 2 does not have a release date yet, but Activision Blizzard said the game is not expected in 2021.
