New Orleans Pelicans are not currently signing Isaiah Thomas for a second ten-day contract, the source said

A 10-day contract with Isaiah Thomas with the New Orleans Pelicans has expired and the team does not immediately plan to sign him for a second deal, a source told ESPN on Tuesday morning.

However, Thomas may later be on the Pelicans’ plans.

New Orleans has two weeks before it has to add another player to the team – on a ten-day contract or for the rest of the season. Due to luxury tax reasons, the team may decide to wait the full two weeks before adding any player. Recent injuries to guards Josh Hart (torn UCL in the right thumb) and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (high left ankle sprain) could force the Pelicans to finally go in a different direction once they sign it.

New Orleans on Monday added James Nunnally, a 6-foot-7 winger, on a two-way contract to fill the gap.

Thomas has played in three games with New Orleans, averaging 7.7 points. He received an enthusiastic applause from fans as he watched the victory over the Sacramento Kings on Monday – his only home game with New Orleans he played.

“I have never been a veteran who was more grateful for the opportunity to play in the league during my entire time in the league. He was amazing here,” Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy said after the game. Said Monday. “To see him go in, even for a few minutes, make a dent, get the appreciation from the fans. I hope he heard it. Many times you do not when you play out there. I hope he has heard I hope he enjoyed it because he definitely deserved it.

“I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to coach him even for a very short time.”

After the game, Thomas took the court about 25-30 minutes to get up extra shots before retreating to the locker room.

Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram called Thomas ‘the best professional’.

“He just came in and did his job when he was in the basketball game, but also on the bench,” Ingram said. “He gave advice, talked to our younger guys and cheered us on, whether he came into the game or not. That’s a big part of our team, too.”
