New NFL rights deal hands over Amazon Night Football to Amazon

The confirmation of the rumors plunged Amazon into the NFL’s latest broadcasting rights package to become the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football until 2033. According to a report by CNBC, the deal will cost Amazon about $ 1 billion a year, without access to playoff games or the Super Bowl. Of course, Amazon is not the only company with Internet video aspirations, and the eleven-year agreement includes specific cut-outs for some of the video services that other partners support.

According to Amazon, “The Prime Video Agreement begins in 2023 and is the NFL’s first exclusive national broadcasting package with a digital streaming service. The number of regular season games included in the Thursday Night Football package increases from 11 to 15, with all games broadcast on Prime Video as part of a Prime membership. “

In addition to providing Super Bowls on ABC / ESPN, Disney has also acquired the right to stream one International Series game exclusively on ESPN + each year. Similarly, Fox has expanded its digital rights to “future opportunities for direct consumers as well as NFL programming on FOX’s AVOD streaming service Tubi.” In addition to an ‘NFL experience on Tubi’ with video-on-demand and abbreviated games, Fox also has ‘authorized sportsbook operator status’ for Fox Bet when / if the NFL approves official sportsbook operators.

NBC has also filled its streaming arm, with plans to stream all NBC NFL broadcasts on Peacock, including the Super Bowl, in the 2026, 2030 and 2034 season. Between 2023 and 2028, Peacock has exclusive national rights to six NFL games per season and will have a “virtual NFL channel.” Before anything happens, Peacock will also be simulating NBC’s Sunday Night Football game from the fall and hosting a special post-match show.

Last but not least, CBS has also included streaming in its plans for the future. Paramount + now has streaming rights for NFL games on both its premium and ad-supported packages, which run from 2021 to 2033. Inside the NFL stream from this season exclusively on Paramount +.
