New Mexico moves to Phase 1C of vaccine distribution

Phase 1C includes:

A. Persons aged 60 or over

B. Essential workers who are not included in phase 1B and who are unable to work remotely:

  • Businesses that store, transport or deliver goods or services directly to residences, retailers, government institutions or essential enterprises (car repair facilities, bicycle repair facilities and retailers that generate the most income from the sale of car or bicycle repair products, airlines and airport operations, taxis and other suppliers transport, transport network companies
  • Utilities, including contractors, suppliers and support activities, engaged in power generation, fuel supply and transmission, water and waste water supply
  • Food service staff not included in Phase 1B, including food and fast food restaurants and food preparation centers
  • Consumables, retail
  • Finance / banking staff, including banks, credit unions, insurance providers, payroll services, brokerage services and investment management firms
  • Information technology and communication staff
  • Staff in the energy industry
  • Legal and accounting staff
  • Media staff
  • Veterinary and animal services, animal protection and facilities that provide services for pet adoption, care, day care or boarding

Phase 2 of the distribution of vaccines, which includes members of the general public who are not included in the above categories, is likely to be eligible by the end of April, according to government officials.

The state Department of Health said the transition is possible because more than 60% of eligible groups have received their first vaccine dose.

‘By expanding the pool of New Mexicans eligible for vaccination, we can keep the momentum going and ensure that New Mexico remains one of the country’s vaccination leaders. At the same time, we will double our efforts to reach and vaccinate the elderly and others in the early stages who have not yet received their shots, ” said Dr. Tracie Collins, secretary of the DOH, said.
