Magic: the Gathering will release two new crossover products featuring Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40k in the coming year, Wizards of the Coast CEO Chris Cocks revealed today during Hasbro’s 2021 Investor Event.
The products will be part of a new class of product called Wizards All out there, which ‘takes some of favorite brands and brings them into the Magic gaming systems or exciting new collectible and social gaming opportunities,’ Cocks said.
Cocks revealed that the next two All out there products include Warhammer 40k crossovers, a miniature war game produced by Games Workshop, and Lord of the Rings. The Warhammer 40k crossover is will be released in 2022 and Wizards has confirmed that it will include the Warhammer 40k commander decks, although it is unclear if there will be additional products. The release date for the Lord of the Rings product is unknown, but Cocks did say that Wizards’ will include characters from the beloved Lord of the Rings universe in future Magic sets’ and the Wall Street Journal reports that there is a ‘ ‘The Lord of the Rings expansion theme. ”
Wizards have “Magic-cards” in their own article in which the product was introduced, but the framework will be clear and cards will have a holofoel stamp indicating that of All out there. ”
The All out there line builds on the two initial crossover products that Wizards released in 2020: the Godzilla Monster Series in the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths expansion, which includes alternate versions of maps in the normal set with Godzilla characters, and The Walking Dead Secret Lair drop consisting of five mechanically unique cards (meaning it does not exist outside the card) The Walking Dead versions) of five characters from the program.
