New Magic Crossovers With Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40k Announced: Hipsters of the Coast

Magic: the Gathering will release two new crossover products featuring Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40k in the coming year, Wizards of the Coast CEO Chris Cocks revealed today during Hasbro’s 2021 Investor Event.

The products will be part of a new class of product called Wizards All out there, which ‘takes some of favorite brands and brings them into the Magic gaming systems or exciting new collectible and social gaming opportunities,’ Cocks said.

Cocks revealed that the next two All out there products include Warhammer 40k crossovers, a miniature war game produced by Games Workshop, and Lord of the Rings. The Warhammer 40k crossover is will be released in 2022 and Wizards has confirmed that it will include the Warhammer 40k commander decks, although it is unclear if there will be additional products. The release date for the Lord of the Rings product is unknown, but Cocks did say that Wizards’ will include characters from the beloved Lord of the Rings universe in future Magic sets’ and the Wall Street Journal reports that there is a ‘ ‘The Lord of the Rings expansion theme. ”

Wizards have “Magic-cards” in their own article in which the product was introduced, but the framework will be clear and cards will have a holofoel stamp indicating that of All out there. ”

The All out there line builds on the two initial crossover products that Wizards released in 2020: the Godzilla Monster Series in the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths expansion, which includes alternate versions of maps in the normal set with Godzilla characters, and The Walking Dead Secret Lair drop consisting of five mechanically unique cards (meaning it does not exist outside the card) The Walking Dead versions) of five characters from the program. The All out there Wizards said that ‘maps’ of both would ‘use approaches to maps,’ but that we usually cannot leave these maps on their own. “We can find charming opportunities to do the existing versions of existing maps, and we will continue to have a balance between the two as we move forward.”

In addition, “All out there cards will not be legal by default, ”Wizards revealed. ‘We strive to make Magic maps that are very useful but All out there will be above and beyond our normal standard releases. So nothing changes much with our normal release for Standard. It’s just a cool thing we do, besides all the other fun things we already do. ‘

As such, Magic’s Summer 2021, Dungeons and Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, which was teased last year, is not a part of Universe Outside and will be legal by default as expected. The Secret Lair x The Walking Dead Secret Lair drop was applied in the product range.

Wizards said it All out there products will “usually be sold in all Magic channels ”and will not be limited to Secret Lair drops. “The Warhammer 40,000 Commander decks, for example, will be available wherever we currently sell Commander decks, just like The Lord of the Rings product,” Wizards confirmed. ‘We may occasionally make associated Secret Lair products related to the main release, as the Secret Lair Godzilla lands when Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths came out. There will also occasionally be a standalone product such as The Walking Dead, but the intention is to make usually All out there as available as any other Magic product. ”
