Lexus is busy with something, but at this point only Toyota’s luxury division knows the truth. Lexus continues to use social media to annoy a new F-Sport product without holding up any other supporting details. At the moment, we only know that it has a hood with the Lexus F sport logo, red paint and a door.
Lexus plans to bring us a brand new F-Sport model with a debut series for February 22, 2021 at 11:00 Eastern Standard Time. Until then, we can only speculate based on a few clues issued by Lexus and collected by our team.
The Lexus F-Sport and full F products are unique varieties among other luxury performance cars. Instead of using the latest technology to express declining returns on performance, Lexus’ sporting products are more soulful. If you were to buy one of Lexus’ performance cars with competitors based on specifications alone, Lexus would not sell any of their sporty products.
Lexus F products are defined by the naturally aspirated 2UR 5.0-liter V8 engine that stands out from its smaller turbo competition. While Toyota and Lexus are striving for more economical drivetrains that should also remain competitive, we expect the 2UR V8 to live in the past as one of the last major V8 engines with a natural aspiration.
Instead of this upcoming F-Sport Lexus, we hope to see at least one new turbocharged V6 engine, which will enable Lexus to compete with mid-range performances from its German competitors. Although a turbocharged engine does not have the character of a V8, its performance potential will be hard to ignore and let Lexus compete against its competitors who have achieved impressive performance from similar engines.
