New Iran’s headache for Biden because dissident group claims to have discovered another nuclear site

An Iranian opposition group that first exposed Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions in 2002 claimed this week that it had discovered new evidence from another undeclared nuclear website that has since been scrubbed clean.

At a news conference on Tuesday, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) provided more information about the site in the Abadeh region of Iran. It is alleged that the site was cleared in July 2019 and that it is being supervised by the recently assassinated chief nuclear scientist, Moshen Fakhirzadeh. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors were only admitted in late August.

The IAEA confirmed last month that inspectors had reported that the regime in Tehran had started producing uranium metal, which is the latest violation of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. The uranium was apparently found in two places in Iran.

“Today’s revelation shows that deception, denial and ambiguity are part of the regime’s DNA,” Ali Safavi, an official of the NCRI’s Foreign Affairs Committee, told Fox News. “Neither Europe nor the US should trust this regime as a credible and honest interlocutor, believing its promises and conceding to its blackmail and attitude.”

As part of its findings, the NCRI said the site was first built by companies controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and that it was part of a project called Marivan, which he said involved a group called METFAZ has been doing the research. and construction of nuclear explosive devices.

The group also noted that dr. Saeed Borji, a top explosives specialist, worked with Fakhrizadeh, the regime’s former nuclear chief. It is said that Borji is still doing research on the core program of the regime.

The Trump administration withdrew from the Iran agreement in 2015 – known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The Biden government has indicated it wants to re-enter the agreement, but said Iran must comply first. Critics have warned that Iran’s behavior could not be controlled by the agreement, and Iran recently rejected informal talks with the US

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Fox News last week that he believes the government intends to ‘go back to this crazy, crazy nuclear deal they were working on to give Iran a very clear path to to provide a core program. ‘

Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow and Iranian expert on the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), told Fox News: “Worse than just violating the JCPOA is the presence of nuclear material at two of three recently inspected sites. by the IAEA a question on compliance with Iran’s non-proliferation treaty and broader breaches of guarantees. “

He said the lesson for the Biden government was a clear lesson: ‘Iran’s interest in a nuclear weapon cannot be easily conveyed in the past tense. The strategic reason for Iranian hedging remains. Any nuclear deal should address this, as well as the holes in the current verification arrangement. “

He noted that the NCRI had exposed the Natanz and Arak reactor areas about 20 years ago, and warned: “If we do not forget, most of Iran’s open nuclear sites were covered earlier. There is a reason for that.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday, three of the JCPOA’s remaining signatories – France, Germany and Britain – withdrew from a planned resolution condemning Iran for its decision to restrict access to the IAEA to facilities.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday on Fox & Friends that Biden was a “friend of Israel”, but added: “as the prime minister of the only Jewish state, we are not going to allow a bunch of ayatollahs to do not delete. from the earth or from the history map. So I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons, and so far we have been successful. ‘
