Rumors about the next model of Apple’s favorite compact smartphone are already in force, though it could take more than a year before we see one.

Analyst Ross Young posted it Twitter on April 1 – salt grain, and so on – that the next iPhone SE will arrive in 2022 with the same 4.7-inch form factor as the current SE. This refreshed modelYoung wrote, can be equipped with the sub-6GHz variation of 5G rather than support for all bands, including ultra-fast millimeter wave spectrum. Young also mentions hearing a 6.1-inch model with a ‘punch hole rather than a notch’ that could be released in 2023.

Some of this information comes from a previous report by trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month. With reference to a Kuo supply chain report, 9to5Mac reports that Kuo also expects 5G connections to come in a 2022 model of the iPhone SE. Kuo also said that a 2022 model has a design of 4.7 inches, but with an upgraded processor.

The most interesting among these rumors is that Apple intended to scrap the SE form factor for a larger screen. It’s unclear whether the SE will have the same size body with a slimmer edge, or that Apple will enlarge the SE (the latter will be bad news for the small ones among us).

As we apparently do not want to get a newer iPhone SE for more than a year – according to reports with a new version projected for 2022 – there is still plenty of time for SE rumors to generate hype around a newer, more powerful device. But it looks interesting.
