After previously reporting details on the upcoming iPad Pro and 9th generation iPad updates we expect this year, Macotakara was focused on the iPad mini today with a new supply chain report. The report says that the 6th generation iPad mini will have an 8.4-inch screen with smaller edges.
New iPad mini features
Unfortunately, the iPad mini does not have a design overhaul like the iPad Air 4 and iPad Pro. Instead, it holds rings at the top and bottom with a home button and Touch ID, and lightning at the bottom. The report says (translated):
It is a narrow frame like iPad Air (3rd generation) and the design fits iPad (9th generation), which still uses Touch ID and Lightning port.
Macotakara says the updated iPad mini will be released sometime in March. This is in line with an expected iPad Pro update that we also expect during the first quarter of this year.
Last May, Apple’s trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple will release an iPad mini between 8.5 and 9 centimeters during the first half of 2021. instead the points of sale would be ‘the affordable price and the use of fast chips’.
Other details about the iPad mini update are unknown, but the screen size is interesting. Apple is currently selling the iPad mini with a 7.9-inch screen. It looks like Apple will slightly reduce the ring size of the iPad mini to fit the larger 8.4-inch screen, while also retaining the home button at the bottom.
Apple last updated the iPad mini in 2019, bringing a faster A12 Bionic processor as well as other improvements.
