The Apple iPad mini 6 will be expected to launch sometime this year, and leaks in the supply chain suggest that the next version of Apple’s pint-sized tablet will be sports a larger screen. And a new version popping up this week has shed further light on what to expect from the next iPad mini.
Accessories manufacturer Pigtou published photos and videos of a 3D-printed model of a prototype of the upcoming iPad mini 6 5G, from well-known leaker David of @xleaks, and the large takeaway looks like the new design has slimmer edges and more rounded edges than current iPad mini.
While the tablet’s size is unlikely to change much, the ring finish may help Apple’s upcoming iPad mini 6 gain significantly more screen space than the current iPad mini’s 7.9-inch screen. Pigtou notes that the prototype model photographed also has a recess below the screen, indicating that the next iPad mini (like previous models) will be sent with a Touch ID home button.
The iPad mini 6 was already expected to drop from its predecessor’s price range from $ 399 to $ 499, and these leaked prototype models offer little reason to expect a significant price change when the product hits the shelves.
Leaking products should always be taken with a grain of salt, but it is not uncommon for accessory manufacturers to get an early indication of the size and shape of appliances so that they can have accessories ready once the final product is ready.
The fact that versions are popping up now may be a sign that the iPad mini is getting closer to the ship date. Many observers expect a Apple April Event soon in which new iPads will be central. That said, we think it’s much more likely that Apple will focus on a new iPad Pro 2021 as an iPad mini.
Aside from the thinner rim and larger screen, the iPad mini 6 is also expected to feature an upgraded A13 processor and possibly a screen that uses mini-LED technology instead of an OLED panel.
