New Google FCC device, possibly a Nest Hub with Soli

Made by Google kicks off the new year with a new device moving through the FCC. This submission points to a new Nest Hub Smart Display.

A4R-GUIK2 is classified as an “interactive device”, with Google previously using the “interactive” designation for smart screens and speakers. For example:

  • Nest Hub (H1A): Google Interactive
  • Nest Hub Max (H2A): interactive video streaming device
  • Nest Mini (H2C): interactive media streaming device
  • Nest Wifi: (H2D / H2E): interactive internet power device
  • Nest Audio (GZRNL): interactive media streaming device

GUIK2 includes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Zigbee, a wireless communication protocol for smart devices.

Meanwhile, this device uses an FCC e-label, which confirms that it has a screen. The instructions reported to the FCC are as follows:

Regulatory information, certification and compliance marks can be found with the following steps from the home screen: System Settings> Regulatory Labels.

On the Hub and Hub Max, swipe down on the screen to tap on the rat icon for a “System Settings” menu. When you browse, the “Regulatory labels” page appears.

When these three familiar aspects are summed up, GUIK2 is probably a smart screen. The Nest Hub Max appeared in September 2019 as Google’s flagship $ 229 screen, while the Home / Nest Hub is now more than two years old. It was launched in October 2018 and is now only $ 89.99 (from $ 149).

Meanwhile, it appears that Soli is at 58-63.5 GHz. The frequency range on the new Nest Thermostat is 61-61.5 GHz, while the Pixel 4 is 58-63.5 GHz. The identical range to the 2019 Google smartphone indicates more precise gestures than the thermostat, where it is only used to turn on the screen as you walk past.

This new device can support accurate control using radar technology. With the Hub Max you can play / interrupt media by holding your palm up to the front camera. One can imagine that this new Nest Hub supports similar air gestures to skip or rotate tracks.
