CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana Wen was critical of the CDC’s newly issued guidelines for people who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, saying they are “too cautious in a way that opposes common sense.”
The new guidelines advise fully vaccinated Americans that they can safely congregate with other people who have also been vaccinated, and refrain from quarantining after being exposed to someone with Covid-19, as long as they are symptomatic. However, the CDC was still discouraged from traveling.
Win tell CNN Newsroom anchor Brooke Baldwin that she wants the guidelines to go beyond what they have done, because the three vaccines approved so far by the FDA have all been “safe and extremely effective, especially in preventing serious diseases, hospitalization and death” for people who have been vaccinated, and there has also been ‘increasing evidence that obtaining vaccines also reduces your chances of becoming a carrier.’
Baldwin said many people, including herself, also thought they might feel safe boarding a plane to see family members. ‘The airline industry today is really pushing back against these new CDC guidelines that vaccinated people should still avoid traveling. Why does the CDC encourage people who have been fully vaccinated not to travel? ”
“So this is one of those examples where I think the CDC is very cautious in a way that defies common sense,” Wen replied, “because look what they say about quarantine,” and note that the CDC is not vaccinated is not. place people in quarantine or even be tested after an exposure, as long as they were asymptomatic.
“It just does not make sense that you can not travel, especially if you can now meet with loved ones.”
Wen said she believes it is important to provide better guidance on travel because “many people are eager to see their grandchildren with whom they do not necessarily live.”
In fact, Wen added: “I actually want to go further and say that people who have been fully vaccinated should be able to travel, be encouraged to travel,” and the use of ‘restoration of freedoms’ as an incentive to encourage people trace to be vaccinated.
