BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. There are more than 150 new jobs coming to the Lehigh Valley with the expansion of Weaver Popcorn in Indiana to Bethlehem Township, Northampton County. It will be right next to Route 22 on Brodhead Road.
This is their first East Coast expansion.
“Weaver Popcorn was started by Rev. Ira Weaver in 1928. He peeled his own popcorn and sold it to the local community,” said chief operating officer Billy Smith.
The family business is one of the largest popcorn manufacturers in the US and supplies popcorn to various brands.
The growing demand during the pandemic has forced the need for the new 40,000 square meter plant, which is still in the early stages of construction and is expected to be completed in the summer.
“During this pandemic, we’ve had significant growth upside down. And as you know, Justin, people like to sit on the couch and eat popcorn and watch a movie if they can not get out. enabled our business, ”Smith said.
The company will create new jobs at a time when many people are out of work.
“So about 125 to 175 once we’re through the third phase. So we’ll be able to bring 175 total jobs to the area,” Smith said.
