Nevadans 55+ with underlying conditions now eligible for COVID vaccine

RENO, Nev. (COLO) – Nevadans 55 years and older with underlying health conditions can now get the COVID-19 vaccine from local pharmacies.

The announcement was made during Monday’s press call COVID.

James English with Washoe County Health District said medical providers will begin vaccinating the specific group later this week or early next week.

The WCHD, which also announced Monday, said it had more than 16,000 vaccine doses on Tuesday, March 16th. This is a significant increase of about 9,000 doses per week.

Washoe County is warning people 65 and older who were waiting for an appointment with the vaccine to check their email accounts, spam folder and junk guide for an invitation.

The consignment will also enable the country to make the vaccination available to more working groups.

“Because you see here in Northern Nevada, we have a large population and workgroups, while we are in other parts of the state,” Engels said. “And with that, we hope to get to the point where we can start working with our hospitality groups and restaurant groups. But it’s all still provided by the vaccine. ”

English says most vaccinations this week are the Pfizer vaccine. The WCHD receives a smaller amount of Moderna vaccine. The health district is still receiving the Johnson & Johnson Janssen vaccine, which will be distributed Sunday.
