Netflix’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ gives the first look at new fantasy series

Netflix has dropped first-watch movies from its upcoming fantasy series “Shadow and Bones”.

The series is an adaptation of author Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling Grishaverse novels and premieres on the streaming service on April 23.

According to the summary, “Shadow and Bone” finds us in a war-torn world where humble soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary force that could be the key to liberating her country. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha.

“These photos provide a glimpse into the expansive, textured world that Leigh has created in her books,” showrunner / executive producer Eric Heissere said in a press release about what they can expect from the show.

“We worked tirelessly to create an inhabited feel for fictional countries like Ketterdam and Ravka, with invented languages, uniforms, currency and artistic choices from set design to costume,” he added.
