Netflix is experimenting with a mobile feature for Android that allows users to set a timer for the period they want to watch a series or movie.

With the tool, viewers can set the timer to 15, 30 or 45 minutes, or just ‘finish the program’ so they do not lose their place, and the title ends at the specified minute when activated. The news was previously reported by The edge. A Netflix spokesman told Gizmodo in an email that the company was “always looking for new ways to enhance the mobile Netflix experience.”

“This test is the latest example – a new timer that gives members more control over their viewing experience by simply selecting their favorite program or movie and setting a timer without worrying about interrupting it before it’s over, said the spokesperson. “We are experimenting with these types of tests and will only introduce the feature more widely if we find that it improves the member experience.”

The feature is only available on certain Android devices and is currently limited to adult profiles, though it’s easy to see how it can be an excellent option for parents who want to limit screen time for their children. Some of the other ways this tool can be helpful is to set up stream time increases based on a workout, or to look passively before bedtime. Netflix noted that the feature is not meant to compete with sleep, but rather to supplement it.

If you are one of the lucky ones with the feature enabled on your Android mobile device, look for the option after playing a title on the platform. You should see it in the upper right corner of the screen as a clock or timer icon. From there, you can set your timer for the title you are currently viewing.
