Netflix has left a controversial episode of one of MTV’s most popular shows on the cutting room floor … an episode notorious for serious bullying.
Here’s the deal … the streaming giant has just added two seasons of MTV’s ‘Real World / Road Rules Challenge’, but fans will immediately notice that something is missing … a few behind-the-scenes clips with 3 female cast members going after another female contestant.
The episode was titled “To Hell and Back: Hot Gossip From The Inferno 2” … and the disturbing scene showed Veronica, Rachel and Tina gang up Tonya Cooley by taking nude photos of her while she sleeps.
They later showed the photos to other guests. The delivery was the conclusion of the program in 2005, and was broadcast instead of the usual reunions at the end of the season.
Why did Netflix cut it? Well, there is the obvious … 2005 was just another time, and things that could be seen as funny or entertaining back then do not fly today.
We asked Netflix and MTV for an explanation, but neither of them answered.
Another relevant fact – Tonya sued MTV in 2011, claiming she was the victim of sexual abuse – apart from the nude photo incident – during the Thailand season. It was reportedly completed in 2012, but it would make sense if the network wanted to avoid any further smoking with Tonya.
