Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX), Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) – Netflix to launch ‘Shuffle Play’ feature around the world in coming months

Netflix Ing (NASDAQ: NFLX) announced during its fourth-quarter earnings report that it will bring ‘Shuffle Play’ to its global user base in the first half of 2021, Verge reported on Wednesday.

What happened: The feature allows users to skip the catalog, as Netflix will randomly select content to watch.

Shuffle Play is designed for users to ‘indicate to us that they just want to browse completely, click one button and we select a title for them to play just right away,’ said Greg Peters, chief operating officer of Netflix.

There’s no clarity on what the feature will be called – but Reed Hastings, the co-CEO of the video streamer, joked earlier that they call it ‘I feel happy’ in the same way. Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG) Google names its search feature.

Why it matters: The Shuffle Play feature appeared in August last year when Netflix began testing it with some of its users worldwide.

The video-on-demand business reported $ 1.19 in adjusted Q4 earnings per share, missing analysts’ expectations of $ 1.39.

Netflix added 8.5 million worldwide paid net subscribers in the period that exceeded Wall Street’s estimates of 6.47 million.

Price action: Netflix shares closed 16.85% higher at $ 586.34 on Wednesday and fell 0.11% in the after-hours session.
