Netflix brings parent debt to the world of superheroes with first Jupiter’s Legacy trailer

Netflix has just shown the first fruits of its agreement Wanted, Gatskop, and Kingsman: The Secret Service cocreator Mark Millar. Jupiter’s Legacy is a new live TV series based on Millar’s comics of the same name, which apparently create a conflict between generations between a team of superheroes and their potentially less heroic children.

Jupiter’s Legacy is an original concept from Millar, but it seems to play on some classic superhero images. (Note Josh Duhamel’s The Utopian pulls in a tractor by hand that can only be described as a classic Superman move.) The most important aspect, however, is the tension between an older generation’s stronger idea of a superhero and a younger generation more interested. in the fame that accompanies it. In Netflix’s words:

They are the first generation superheroes. But if they hand over the torch to their children, the tension increases – and the old rules no longer apply.

Jupiter’s Legacy is just the first of several planned Netflix projects from Millar, the result of the streamer that its publisher Millarworld bought in 2017. Jupiter’s Legacy, Netflix also plans to debut another Millar original, covering everything from space hunters to Spanish telenovelas. With this Millar series, it seems like Netflix is poised to continue the recent trend of dad issues in superhero stories.

Jupiter’s Legacy will premiere on May 7, 2021.
