Netflix announces new feature to automatically download shows and movies based on your taste

Netflix has announced a new “Downloads for You” feature for its iOS and Android applications. The company says that this feature will automatically download the recommended TV shows or movies to your device, depending on your taste, and it is fortunately completely subscriber.

The feature launches today on Android and will soon begin testing on iOS.

The company cites this feature as an extension of the Smart Downloads feature, which introduced it three years ago as a way to automatically download the next episode of a TV show you watch. Downloads for You takes it to the next level.

The announcement post explains:

Today we launch Downloads For You, a new feature that automatically downloads recommended apps or movies to your mobile device. Whether you’re a comedy fan riding a long car ride or have a rom com lover without internet, we do the work, so there’s always something new waiting to entertain and delight you.

The feature will soon be tested on iOS, and this is how you will be able to sign in once it is known:

  1. Go to the Downloads tab and turn on Downloads for you.
  2. Select the amount of content you want to download to your device (1GB, 3GB or 5GB) and click on Connect. The more space you allow, the more recommendations Netflix will download for you.

There is no timetable for the launch of this feature for all iPhone and iPad users, but it is available worldwide on Android as of today. What do you think of this feature? Will it activate on your iPhone or iPad when it launches? Let us know in the comments!
