Google’s Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has been discontinued because the Google Store sold the last stock. Do not worry if you were hoping to pick one up, as Google also confirms that a new range of security cameras will land later this year. However, the recently sold out model will still get software updates and feature support.

Stock for the $ 399 IP-rated Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has been fluctuating in Google’s various regional windows over the past few weeks. Google has since confirmed that the product is ‘sold out’, which is no longer for sale through the Google Store, but it will still get updates (as we would hope the price). In our review, we found that it is a capable security house camera with leading-edge video quality and functionality, although the price tag was problematic – not that it matters now. Although some third-party retailers still sell it, it sounds like the camera has been discontinued.

This brings us to this latest development: According to a statement provided by Google to 9to5Google, a new set of smart cameras will launch later this year. A Google spokesman tells us: “Nest will continue to invest in new innovations, including a new range of security cameras for 2021.” Other details about the range have not been provided, but we hope it will fetch a more competitive price than the current models.

Google was clearly aware that the price of its smart suite was an issue, as last year it revised up the prices of Nest Aware to make it more affordable per camera (although the change was not all for the better). Other hardware products in the current range range from $ 129 for the basic Nest Cam Indoor to $ 300 for the Nest Cam IQ Indoor. This is much more than many other cameras cost for Assistant costs, especially given the random problems they have. Other smart home companies like Wyze have interrupted a literal order on Google’s price for their Assistant-linked cameras, so we have to assume that Google is paying attention.

Just a few days ago, a new and likely Nest brand hit the FCC. We do not know what it is, but there is a screen, Soli and Zigbee technology in it – maybe a successor to Nest Secure or a new smart screen or both? Either way it ends, it could be part of the new series when it lands. And since the delay between the FCC’s appearance and the launch is usually only a month or two, we may not have too long to wait.
