Necromunda: Hired Gun is a first-person shooter set in a beloved Warhammer 40,000 universe

Necromunda: Rented rifle, a first-person shooter set in the world of Warhammer 40,000, appears to be leaking to Microsoft’s online store window. Developed by the same team behind Space Hulk: Deathwing, puts the game players in the role of a mercenary who hunts criminals and mutants in the average streets of the most famous hive world of Empire. The list states that it will be available for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles.

Introduced in 1995 as a tabletop miniature game, the Necromunda universe focuses on the violent battles between working-class gangs in a massive, industrial tower city in the 41st millennium. The game pits small forces – usually about six miniatures – against each other on a highly three-dimensional game board. His universe is known for its bloody violence, but also for its sense of humor.

The franchise was reloaded in 2017 with a new miniature game with the box Necromunda: Lower basket, which was followed by several box sets, miniature sets and hardcover rule books. This is also the topic of two recent video games: Necromunda: Underhive Wars, a tactical strategy game for computers and consoles, and Necromunda: Gang Skirmish, a free mobile game.

Necromunda: Rented rifle is the first title that allows players to experience this franchise from a first person perspective. Players will take on the role of a lone mercenary assisted by a partially robotic dog named a cyber mastiff. They will be able to upgrade their character with customizable additions so that, according to the official description, they can also “run on walls and jump over gorges”.

Images show the player character fighting alongside Eschers, a female faction that uses chemical stimulants to improve their fighting abilities. They are also seen using live grenades made from rats, a specialty of the Cawdor faction of passers-by. Enemies include muscle-bound Goliath and Orlocks from the House of Iron. There is also a hollow Ambot, a powerful robot used for excavation.

According to the description, players also have access to a wrestling hook that allows for an easy ‘crossing of the massive environments’.

Although the franchise was not always a home business in video games (Necromunda: Underhive Wars especially very poorly rated when it was released), the studio behind this game has an excellent record; It was responsible for the excellent multiplayer shooter Space Hulk: Deathwing which was originally released in 2016. The game was later revised and re-released as Space Hulk: Deathwing – Enhanced Edition for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
