Nearly 2,000 doses of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine have been spoiled at the Jamaica Plain Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
VA Boston Pharmacy staff on Tuesday found that the freezer containing the doses failed, putting 1,900 shots at risk, according to a statement from a spokesman for the VA Boston Healthcare System.
The freezer was “in a safe place and had an alarm system installed”, the statement said.
“The plug was found loose after a contractor accidentally removed it during cleaning,” officials said. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident and why the monitoring and alarm system did not work properly. ‘
Despite the loss, the spokesman said that supplemental doses were being processed and that the healthcare system did not expect any disruption to the vaccine deployment plan.
