Navalny sues Russia for withholding Koran

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is suing Russia for imprisonment for withholding the Koran.

Navalny said in an Instagram post that he bought two to three parts of the Koran with commentary, but it was not given to him because it takes prison officials three months to check books for extremism.

He called the investigation of the Koran illegal for extremism and sued Moscow for reading.

Navalny is serving a 2-year prison sentence on alleged charges by the Russian government.

Although Navalny is a Christian, he says that studying the Qur’an is part of his self-improvement and that he wants to become “Koran champion among Russian non-Muslim politicians,” Associated Press reported.

The lawsuit comes during a deterioration in Navalny’s health, as he is on a hunger strike for two weeks because the prison does not allow him to see a doctor for his leg and back pain.

The prison is threatens to force feed Navalny if he does not end the hunger strike but does not allow him to go to a doctor of his choice.

Navalny begins to lose feeling in his hands as he was recently diagnosed with spinal fractures.

Several countries have condemned Russia for capturing Navalny and imposing sanctions on the country for its actions.
