For this reason, the federal agency assuming jurisdiction, vereis dat’n nije vesting someter una solicitud para determiner si procede o no authorize la operation op terminal.

We feel very sorry to say that in the end we will begin to intervene in this situation that we are preoccupied with because we believe that another accident like Capeco or Humberto Vidal will happen. It is not possible to hope that a tragedy will happen for those who take action. All the valen vidas and the merecen people will feel safe from residen ”, said Sary Rosario, resident of Puerto Nuevo Norte in written statements.

“The volatility of methane gas exposes vulnerable communities to the risk of explosion, as most neighborhoods near the New Fortress terminal are located approximately 400 meters away from this facility. Equally, the gas methane causes respiratory problems, including asthma, among other adverse effects on the health of the residents, which are particularly dangerous during the COVID-19 ”pandemic,” Rosario said.

For its part, New Fortress Energy insures, receives written declarations that work with the FERC to speed up the certification process.

“It is important to note that the decision does not interrupt the operations and allows the installation to continue.
“Proportional ahorros significant in the cost of combustion and emission reductions for the benefit of the people of Puerto Rico”, leen the written statements.

The FERC’s decision responds to multiple advertisements and actions by the local authorities near Terminal not authorized by New Fortress, as well as religious, ambient and Puerto Rican groups. Organizations that form AERA and other entities are advising the federal government on the crime that represents the New Fortress GNL Terminal, which is extremely explosive and contaminating.

Mention that New Fortress commences the construction and operation of the terminal in Puerto de San Juan to supply methane gas to units 5 and 6 of Central Electric in Puerto Nuevo and private companies. In addition, New Fortress is constructing the terminal without the need to prepare a consultation and opportunity consultation with close communities and affected groups participating in public visits.

The AERA organizations and different sectors of the country have been alerted to the security and health risks that this operation represents, especially to the Sabana, Amelia and Vietnam communities of Guaynabo, and to the Borinquen and Puerto Nuevo Norte San Barriada Juan.

“People living near this terminal have legitimate concerns about life and health,” Rosario concluded. “It is an eco-justice support for communities and also for climate justice, and it is the combustion of fossil fuels that it contributes to the unforeseen consequences of the climate crisis.”

The organizations that compose AERA and the Pastoral Hermandad of Puerto Nuevo, which include pastors in these communities, solicit the FERC’s intervention in this case. Felipe Lozada Montañez, Bishop Emeritus of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Puerto Rico, stated that “defending life is the main thing and a fundamental part is defending the atmosphere that is part of creation”.

New Fortress is also undergoing legislative investigation into irregularities in both construction and operation of the terminal.

AERA promotes the Queremos Sol proposal (queremossolpr.com) which advertises to the AEE the installation of solar systems in the properties of the properties and the subscribers as the alternative electricity generation principal in Puerto Rico.
