NASCAR adapts Daytona Road Course bus stop harassment

NASCAR adjusted the Daytona International Speedway Road Course’s bus stop chicane before this weekend’s national series of triangles, following the driver’s feedback from the Busch Clash that began during the season.

The sanction body added debris strips at the Turn 9 and Turn 10 chicane at the rear to prevent cars from ending up in the grass and spraying dirt on the race surface and other cars.

The drone strips will be the same as the front chicane. The one to the right of the driver with the entrance is about 36 feet long and the other one is about 30 feet long.

Like several executives, the idea was led by NASCAR, while Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, and Chase Briscoe contributed specific ideas among the group.

“It seemed like a good solution to me,” said Alan Gustafson, chief of staff at Chase Elliott. “Must be good. I do not really have problems with guys who fix the bus stop. This is their job. This is what they are supposed to do. Only the dirt was a problem. ‘

Elliott will try to win his third consecutive NASCAR Cup Series in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 253 at Daytona (15:00 ET, FOX, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). He starts on the pole with Daytona 500 champion Michael McDowell next to him in the front row.

Elliott won the first NASCAR Cup Series race on the track layout last year, and he also nearly won the Busch Clash event. An aggressive move for the win resulted in both Elliott and race leader Ryan Blaney turning out of contention so Busch could drive past for the win.
