(CNN Español) – Myanmar authorities are ordering this Saturday the closing of the data network in all countries, following the telecommunications company Telenor Group, which directs Telenor Myanmar. In a statement published on its official Twitter account on Saturday, Telenor Group says that the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Myanmar (MoTC) ordered all mobile operators to temporarily close the Myanmar data network ».
The MoTC Directive states that “the legal basis in the Myanmar Telecommunications Act refers to the circulation of false notices, the stability of the nation and the public interest as a basis for order”.
Voice and SMS alert services will be permanently updated, according to Telenor.
“Telenor Group has this development with deep preoccupation”, said the Norwegian mobile telephony company and stated that “Telenor Myanmar, as a local company, is subject to the local law and the need to manage this irregular and difficult situation”.
“We deeply regret the impact that it has on the people of Myanmar,” Telenor said.
The NetBlocks Internet Monitoring Group, which tracks Internet interruptions and crashes around the world, also detected a generalized interruption of Myanmar connectivity.
At one point in the week, Netblocks signaled that “national cohesion has reached 54% of normal levels” in Myanmar at 10 am local time.
Describe the interruption as the “second national escalation network” in Myanmar.
