Hall of Fame votes seem easy – for anyone who does not vote. But ask any of us who do it. We can think of 1000 adjectives to describe the mood in the Hall of Fame. I guarantee that “easy” will not fetch the best 1,000.
I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one going to turn around at 4am and think about my mood. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who sticks to a name or two or three for days or often weeks.
I always try to be aware that it is a serious responsibility if I take one of these voices. So we all have to take it so seriously.
I also try to be aware that everyone who has even read up to this point cares a lot about the Hall of Fame. So I owe you this column. I owe you an explanation for everything regarding this vote. It’s true whether you like it or hate it.
If it does not matter to so many of you, there is no reason to have a Hall of Fame. So …
