Elon Musk recently said he plans to bring humans to Mars by 2026, which is seven years before NASA astronauts want to land there.
Multibillionaire and SpaceX founder Elon Musk said at the Mars Society Virtual Convention in 2020 that he has a goal of creating a self-sustaining city on Mars before a possible World War 3.
“I think it’s helpful to create a self-sustaining city on Mars,” he said. “It should be the goal, not just a few people or a base, but a self-sustaining city.”
Musk then said it was important to test whether the Martian colony would become extinct if for some reason the stock did not come off the earth, even nuclear destruction. “If that happens, we’re not in a safe place,” he said.
