Much of Pakistan loses power in massive eclipse

ISLAMA BATH – Pakistan hit a major power outage early Sunday, one of the biggest power outages to hit the country of more than 200 million.

The eclipse affected a large part of the country, including major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and others.

One news report, on the website Propakistani, said the failure followed the stumbling block of a power line on the national network, although the exact cause was not immediately clear. It quoted officials from the power ministry as saying that restoring power could take hours.

The Pakistani state broadcaster said Twitter that the power ministry ‘oversees rapid and complete restoration of power in the country’. It urged people to follow authentic news accounts and not spread panic.
